ITINERARY
DAY 1.- “Lago Sandoval” / jungle walk/Spotting Caimans
Pick up from the airport and / or bus station transfer to the office where they can leave some luggage that is not going to take the tour. Then transfer to the port (port captain) 15 minutes by boat downriver by the Madre de Dios River in a motorized boat to take us to our lodge. we will recive all information for go and stay in lake sandoval, with the Mejía family. From our lodge we will travel 10 minutes by boat until arriving at the shores of the Sandoval lake port , from where we will enter the Tambopata Reserve “Lago Sandoval” in a walk of about 1 hour, then we will arrive at the lake where we will take a canoe to paddle through this beautiful lake that houses a great variety of birds and animals. We will arrive at the family lodge, where we will settle in our rooms, then at noon we will have a lunch at Lake Sandoval, after lunch those who wish can bathe at Lake Sandoval without any danger, then return to our lodge, dinner and then a night walk to see some animals and / or insects that leave at night return to our lodge where we spend the night in our comfortable lodge.
DAY 2.-TAMBOPATA RESERVE – GIANT OTTER SPOTTING – PARROT PALM TREE COLLPA.
Early we woke up to cross the lake by canoe and take a short path along the main path, 1 km along the path there is a special place where every morning parrots and macaws congregate to eat tree bark, very rich in minerals, dozens of blue and yellow macaws red and blue macaws take turns eating minerals in dead palms or in the palm trees that nest them. Returning from the parrot show, we have the chance to see the friendly family of giant otters that are very active at that time in the lake. Giant otters feed an average of 8 pounds of fish per day (4 kilos). Sandoval Lake offers abundant wildlife, including: 6 species of monkeys, black alligators, more than 40 species of birds resident on the shore of the lake, all 5 species of kingfisher from Peru, and the most abundant group of Hoatzin, all Animals here are easy to photograph from boats. We return to the Lodge and a deserved breakfast, then we go into deep jungle to see giant trees such as kapok tree, iron tree brazilian nut tree, our Guide will show you and demonstrate how we collect and market this extremely important product for Our local economy, then we return to the Lodge for our delicious,in the afternoon we take our paddle canoe, we go to the observation tower wher we can appreciate a beautiful sunset and explore a different area of the lake in search of the different monkey troops, very active at this time of day, the brown capuchin monkey the squirrel monkey live in the forest near the lake,to close the day before dinner we will do a night walk to see insects, tarantulas and snakes, then dinner and rest.
DAY 3: Wildlife at the Sandoval Lake Reserve Center
Sunrise Excursion:
Wake up early to watch the sunrise over Sandoval Lake.
Birdwatching: Cross the lake to observe birds nesting in the Mauritia palm trees.
Walk through the forest surrounding Sandoval Lagoon: observe giant trees over 100 years old.
Relaxation: Enjoy free time to swim in Sandoval Lake.
After lunch, we will get ready to return to Puerto Maldonado, then to our destination: the airport, bus terminal, and your hotel.
