Tambopata Tours 5 days / 4 nights
5 Days – 4 Nights
ITINERARY
DAY 1 Puerto Maldonado / Monkey Island / Lodge
Airport and/or bus station pickup, transfer to the office where you can leave any luggage you won’t be using for the excursion. Then transfer to the port (port captain) for a 20-minute boat ride down the Madre de Dios River in a motorboat that will take us to our lodge. We will settle into our comfortable rooms, accompanied by our guide, and then walk along the lodge’s trails where our guide will explain the flora and fauna that inhabit this area. After lunch, we’ll travel by boat for 20 minutes to Monkey Island, a great opportunity to see the five species of monkeys that inhabit this island. Then we’ll prepare to return to the lodge, returning at sunset to observe caimans with the help of our flashlights. We’ll also see red-eyed alligators, and your guide will explain everything about them. We’ll return to the lodge for an overnight stay in our comfortable accommodations.
DAY 2: Treetop Walk, Kayaking/Fishing/Overnight
After breakfast, we’ll take our kayaks from our lodge along the Madre de Dios River to the adventure activity center. We’ll walk for 5 minutes and then ascend a 20-meter-high tower, crossing suspension bridges to see the rainforest from the treetops, as the animals see it. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for lunch. After a rest, we’ll prepare for a half-hour hike to a small river where we can fish for piranhas and other Amazonian fish. We’ll return to our lodge for dinner. After dinner, we’ll spend the night in our comfortable accommodations.
DAY 3 – Tambopata Reserve “Lake Sandoval” / Caimaneo
After breakfast, we’ll transfer to a different lodge at Lake Sandoval. We’ll spend the night within the Tambopata Reserve with the Mejía family from our lodge. We’ll travel 10 minutes by boat to the shores of Lake Sandoval’s port, from where we’ll enter the Tambopata Reserve “Lake Sandoval” with an approximately one-hour hike. Upon reaching the lake, we’ll board a canoe to paddle across this beautiful lake, home to a wide variety of birds and animals. We will arrive at the family-run lodge, where we will settle into our rooms. At midday, we will have lunch at Lake Sandoval. After lunch, those who wish can swim in Lake Sandoval safely. Then we will return to our lodge, have dinner, and then take a night walk to see some of the animals and/or insects that come out at night. Afterward, we will return to our lodge where we will spend the night in our comfortable accommodations.
DAY 4: Clay Licks and Palm Trees / Tambopata Reserve “Lake Sandoval” / Return to the Lodge
Very early in the morning, we will get up and take the canoe to paddle across Lake Sandoval until we reach a place where we can see a palm grove. Hundreds of macaws come here to eat the dried palm fronds, which contain a high concentration of mineral salts necessary for digestion. Then we’ll return to our family-run lodge for breakfast. After breakfast, we’ll hike along the trails of the Tambopata Reserve, returning for lunch. After lunch, we’ll prepare to return to our lodge for our first night. We’ll check into our rooms at the lodge, then take a night hike, returning to the lodge for dinner. We’ll spend the night in our comfortable accommodations.
DAY 5: Lodge / Puerto Maldonado / Bus Station
After breakfast, around 9:30 a.m., we’ll visit a native family in the Machiguenga community, where we’ll have the opportunity to interact with them, talk, and learn about their culture. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge and prepare your luggage for your transfer by motorboat to Puerto Maldonado. From there, you can transfer to the airport, bus terminal, or your hotel.
